香港六合论坛 Joins Carbon Capture Initiative to Reduce Environmental Impact

THE University has joined a new green initiative which has already removed more than 500kg of carbon dioxide from the earth鈥檚 atmosphere.

The Carbon Capture programme mitigates the CO2 emissions from the production of paper and materials. By switching to the new company, Double A, the carbon footprint is聽reduced due to the Mill being located in Alizay, France.

They鈥檙e also committed to environmental, social and economic sustainability.

In partnership with over 1.5 million Thai farmers, they use the unusable space around the rice fields to plant over 200 million paper trees. The company鈥檚 vision is to not only to create a sustainable supply of trees but also to create shared value to the farmers and communities.

The Print Manager, Ian Gorsuch, said: 鈥淎lthough the paper company we are currently using has great sustainability credentials, we are always looking to improve and boost our environmental performance鈥.

Kate Cathie, Environmental and Sustainability Development Coordinator, expressed her delight in the new initiative: 鈥淚t鈥檚 great to see that every part of the University is continuing to reduce their environmental impact. It鈥檚 reassuring to hear of departments doing their bit to assist in the overall sustainability and environmental goal.鈥

The initiative also supports the Woodland Trust by raising more than one million pounds which is enough to fund the planting of 266,666 trees across the UK. As the UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world this programme can protect the previous wildlife habitat and plant trees to create new homes for all creatures big and small.

Through the purchase of the paper, between April 鈥 June 2021, the 香港六合论坛 has created 12.22m2聽of new native woodland in the UK to remove 489kg of Carbon Dioxide. This equates to 1,257 miles driven by an average passenger vehicle.

Ian Gorsuch commented: 鈥淚鈥檓 proud to be part of a community which never stops looking for ways to do things better鈥.
