{"id":4204,"date":"2021-09-06T10:28:28","date_gmt":"2021-09-06T09:28:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.chi.ac.uk\/?page_id=4204"},"modified":"2024-04-22T15:53:43","modified_gmt":"2024-04-22T14:53:43","slug":"protect-your-student-route-visa","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.chi.ac.uk\/study\/international\/visa-and-immigration\/protect-your-student-route-visa\/","title":{"rendered":"Protect your Student Route Visa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1>\n\t\tProtect your Student Route Visa\n\t<\/h1>\n\t<div class=\"sidebar-menu-wrapper\"><\/div>\n    <h2>The duties of a student on a student route visa<\/h2>\n<h3>\n\t\tStudents holding a student visa are required by law to fulfil certain criteria and have specific duties:\n\t<\/h3>\n    <ul>\n<li>Provide the University with a copy of your current passport and visa\/Biometric Residence Permit. Every time you get a new passport or a visa you must provide copies to the University. Without this (or proof that our CAS has been used to apply for a visa) you will not be able to register on your programme.<\/li>\n<li>Register\/re-register on your programme three times a year.<\/li>\n<li>Keep the University updated with your UK contact details (address, email, telephone number).\u00a0 You will be able to do this via our student portal, Chiview.<\/li>\n<li>Keep the University updated if you decide to change your course, withdraw or suspend your studies via the appropriate University processes.<\/li>\n<li>Study whilst you are in the UK, ensuring that you meet the progression and attendance requirements for your course with no unauthorised absences.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure you do not breach the conditions of your visa:\n<ul>\n<li>Do not work more hours than you should. Students studying at degree level or above are allowed to work 20 h\/week during term time and full time during vacations. Students studying at below degree level are allowed to work 10 h\/ week during term time and full time during vacations.<\/li>\n<li>Do not claim public funds. This means that you cannot claim certain welfare benefits and local authority housing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Report any\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/change-circumstances-visa-brp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">change of circumstance\u00a0<\/a>to the Home Office. Changes you should report are as follows:\n<ul>\n<li>Changes to your personal details<\/li>\n<li>Criminal convictions that you have not previously told the\u00a0Home Office\u00a0about<\/li>\n<li>Changes in your contact details<\/li>\n<li>Changes in your family members&#8217; details, if they are in the UK as your dependants and<\/li>\n<li>Any other information you think the\u00a0Home Office\u00a0should know,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The University also has specific duties in relation to students on Student Visas that they are required by law to fulfill:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We are obliged to report to the\u00a0Home Office\u00a0any student who either does not enroll or who misses 10 expected contacts with tutors or in class.<\/li>\n<li>We also have to report any student who defers or leaves a course, or if we stop being the student&#8217;s sponsor.
