There are two international loans available, please click on the links below to quickly access the sections:<\/p>\n
FINS is a private student loan scheme that offers personalized financial solutions to EU students, enabling those with a lack of financial resources to pursue higher education abroad.<\/p>\n
The scheme was introduced to the 香港六合论坛 in 2021 and is open to all EU students that want to apply, applied, or have already received an offer to study an Undergraduate or Postgraduate course at the 香港六合论坛.<\/p>\n
EU students can access up to EUR 18.000 for postgraduate studies, or up to 25.000 EUR for undergraduate studies.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 Urgent expenses<\/p>\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tApplication process:<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tExpand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t As soon as you know which university you want to go to, you can get in touch with FINS on their\u00a0webpage<\/a>.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\tEligibility:<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tExpand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t FINS takes into consideration the following eligibility criteria when assessing applications:<\/p>\n Further eligibility criteria can be viewed on the FINS\u00a0webpage<\/a>.<\/p>\n We participate in the\u00a0William D Ford Federal Direct Loan Programme<\/a>.<\/p>\n If you or your programme of choice is not eligible for the Direct Loan programme you can look at funding your studies privately. Sallie Mae Student Loans<\/a> are currently the only available private student loans for US students studying at the 香港六合论坛.<\/p>\n These pages have\u00a0information on Direct Loans available for students from the United States who wish to study at the 香港六合论坛. We do not cover other loans and grants such as the Pell Grant, as they are not available to students studying in Foreign Schools.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\tEligibility<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tExpand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t In order to apply for funding, you must\u00a0meet the eligibility criteria set by the US Department of Education.<\/p>\n You are required to be enrolled at least half-time at the 香港六合论坛; study on an eligible, degree-bearing course;\u00a0make satisfactory progress (SAP); and undertake your study in the UK.<\/p>\n Eligible courses:<\/strong><\/p>\n Mature students<\/strong><\/p>\n In order for US students to be eligible to receive US Federal Aid, you must have a secondary school completion credential or its equivalent. (See 34 CFR 600.54). Students enrolled under the mature student provision do not satisfy this requirement and are not eligible to apply for US Federal Aid.<\/p>\n Work placements\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Many of our degree programmes offer work placements and they can be compulsory or voluntary.<\/p>\n A degree with a work placement is eligible for Federal Aid funding if the placement component meets all the below criteria.<\/p>\n The placement…<\/p>\n Study abroad and exchange\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Students in receipt of US Federal Aid can take part in voluntary study abroad and exchange opportunities available at the 香港六合论坛.<\/p>\n Student should be aware, however that this is only possible if the host institution abroad is a Title IV eligible institution. A list of eligible institutions is available from the Financial Aid team (international@chi.ac.uk<\/a>).<\/p>\n Students should also be aware that they will not be eligible for US Federal Aid funding if they choose to take part in study abroad\/exchange that takes place in the United States.<\/p>\n Who to contact?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Questions relating to federal funding and eligibility during study abroad\/exchange should be emailed to\u00a0international@chi.ac.uk<\/a>.<\/p>\n If you would like to find out about study abroad and exchange opportunities, please get in touch with\u00a0exchange@chi.ac.uk<\/a>.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\tIneligible courses<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tExpand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t We are unable to offer federal loans to students on certain ineligible courses.<\/p>\n Ineligible courses include courses that are less than half-time, are not degree-bearing and courses with online or distance learning\u00a0elements.<\/p>\n You are also not able to study on non-degree programmes e.g. Foundation Degrees, Certificate of Higher Education etc. or take part in a study abroad\/exchange programme unless\u00a0it is with a Title IV eligible institution.<\/p>\n Distance learning degrees\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Degrees that are delivered fully online or have distance learning components are not eligible for US Federal Aid funding. Please see above for information on the CARES Act that covers remote learning during a the COVID-19 related national emergency.<\/p>\n Foundation Degrees\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Our Foundation Degrees are not eligible for US Federal Aid funding.<\/p>\n BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Our nursing degrees are not certified for US Federal Aid purposes and are therefore not eligible for US Federal Aid funding.<\/p>\n Higher Education Certificate and HE Diploma & Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)<\/strong><\/p>\n We are only certified to fund undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Therefore, Certificates and Diplomas, including the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), are not eligible for US Federal Aid.<\/p>\n Study Abroad\/Exchange – eligible institutions & time spent in the USA\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Student should be aware that a voluntary study abroad\/exchange is only possible if the host institution abroad is a Title IV eligible institution. A list of eligible institutions is available from the Financial Aid team (international@chi.ac.uk<\/a>).<\/p>\n Students should also be aware that they will not be eligible for US Federal Aid funding if they choose to take part in study abroad\/exchange that takes place in the United States.<\/p>\n PhD students – time spent in the USA\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Please note that PhD students are not eligible for US Federal Aid if their study includes periods of study or research in the U.S.A.<\/p>\n PhD students may make themselves or the course they are studying on ineligible in these circumstances:\u00a0Under \u00a7600.52, a foreign institution may not\u00a0permit students to enroll in any course offered by the foreign institution that takes\u00a0place in the United States, including research, work, internship, externship, or\u00a0special studies. Despite this prohibition, independent research done by an\u00a0individual student in the United States for not more than one academic year is\u00a0permissible if it is conducted during the dissertation phase of a doctoral program\u00a0under the guidance of faculty and the research can only be performed in the\u00a0United States. (Additional guidance on the Title IV program ineligibility of foreign\u00a0institution programs offered in the U.S. can be found in Dear Colleague Letter\u00a0GEN-11-18.)<\/em><\/p>\n If you are a PhD student and are planning to spend any time during your studies in the United States, please make sure you contact the financial aid administrators to determine whether your plans impact on your loan eligibility.<\/p>\n Funding for an ineligible programme\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n If your course is ineligible, you can look into Sallie Mae loan (Private Loan). Please see further information below.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\tUS Federal (Direct) Loan Funding explained<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tExpand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t The principle funding available to US students studying at the 香港六合论坛 is the Federal Direct Loan.<\/p>\n For more information on the direct loan please visit the student aid website<\/a>.<\/p>\n The direct loan is available to cover the primary costs of education (tuition, student accommodation, books\/supplies and commuter travel) and is available to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.<\/p>\n You should plan a budget for your studies (cost of attendance) and you should only borrow what you need.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\tDirect loan types available for US students<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tExpand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t Federal Direct Stafford Loan<\/strong><\/p>\n The Federal Direct Stafford loan is made up of two parts – \u00a0subsidised and unsubsidised, which have fixed limits depending on your status (dependent, independent or postgraduate). These may be topped up to the full cost of attendance (COA) with a PLUS loan, which is not an entitlement, but subject to credit checking and may be declined by the US Department of Education.<\/p>\n Subsidised\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n This loan is assessed on financial need. No interest is accrued while you are in school at least half-time, during the grace period and during deferment periods. Afterwards these costs will revert to being your responsibility. The figures may change, so you need to check interest rates when applying for your loan(s).<\/p>\n Unsubsidized<\/strong><\/p>\n This loan is not based on financial need. Interest is accrued during the period of study and during the grade and deferment periods. No payments are required while you\u00a0are enrolled at least for half-time. These costs are your responsibility and figures may change, so you need to check interest rates when applying for your loan(s).<\/p>\n\n
